Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 20 June 2026

1.Who we are

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") form a legal agreement between you and Autera Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16402865 (referred to as "Autera", "we", "us" or "our").

By accessing or using the Autera platform (the "Platform"), whether as a vehicle owner booking a repair ("Customer") or as an independent mechanic offering services ("Mechanic"), you agree to be bound by these Terms, our Privacy Policy, and our Cookie Policy.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use the Platform.

2.What Autera is

Autera is a platform that connects Customers who need vehicle repairs or servicing with independent Mechanics who provide those services.

Autera is not a garage and does not itself carry out any vehicle repairs. When a Customer books a repair through the Platform, this creates a direct contract for services between the Customer and the Mechanic. Autera is not a party to that contract — our role is to facilitate the introduction, the booking, and the payment between the two parties.

3.Payments

3.1 Autera uses Stripe Connect to process all payments made through the Platform. When you make a booking, your payment details are collected securely via Stripe at the time of booking.

3.2 The booking flow works as follows: the Customer requests a booking and payment is authorised; the Mechanic reviews and accepts the job within their own schedule; the Mechanic completes the work within the agreed time frame; the Customer then confirms completion by marking the job as satisfactory, or raises an issue if not. Funds collected from a Customer are held within Stripe's payment infrastructure as a delayed payout and are not released to the Mechanic until the Customer confirms satisfaction (or a reasonable review period passes without a dispute being raised).

3.3 For clarity: this is a delayed payout arrangement provided through Stripe, not a legal escrow account. Autera does not hold Customer funds directly in its own bank account at any point — funds are held and routed entirely through Stripe's regulated payment infrastructure.

3.4 Mechanics keep 100% of the value of each job. Autera does not take a commission or percentage cut from individual bookings. Autera generates revenue through a flat monthly subscription fee charged to Mechanics for use of the Platform (see your Mechanic account for current pricing). Standard Stripe payment processing fees apply to all transactions and are separate from Autera's subscription fee.

3.5 Prices shown for a service are estimates based on the information provided at the time of booking. The Mechanic may need to amend the price if, upon inspection, the actual work required differs from what was described. Any price changes will be communicated to the Customer for confirmation before work proceeds.

4.No warranty from Autera

4.1 Autera does not provide any warranty or guarantee in relation to the quality, safety, or outcome of any repair, service, or work carried out by a Mechanic.

4.2 Any warranty on parts or workmanship is a matter between the Customer and the Mechanic directly, and is not provided, administered, or guaranteed by Autera.

4.3 We encourage Customers to discuss warranty terms directly with their Mechanic before or during a booking.

5.Liability

5.1 As Autera is not the party performing the repair work, Autera is not liable for the quality, safety, accuracy, or outcome of any service carried out by a Mechanic, including but not limited to defective workmanship, damage to a vehicle, or any resulting loss.

5.2 Autera's liability is limited to our role in facilitating the booking and payment process. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by Autera's own negligence, or for fraud, where such exclusion would be unlawful.

5.3 The AI diagnostic tool available on the Platform provides a general, automated indication of possible vehicle issues based on the information you provide. It is not a substitute for assessment by a qualified mechanic, may be inaccurate, and any final diagnosis, pricing, and repair decision rests with the Mechanic. See our Disclaimer page for further detail.

6.Mechanic obligations

6.1 Mechanics using the Platform must:

  • hold any qualifications, licences, insurance, and right to work required to lawfully carry out the services they offer;
  • act as independent contractors — Mechanics are not employees, workers, or agents of Autera;
  • provide accurate information about their services, pricing, and availability;
  • carry out work to a reasonable professional standard.

6.2 Mechanics agree not to solicit, encourage, or accept direct off-platform bookings, payment, or contact arrangements from a Customer they were introduced to via Autera, for the purpose of avoiding Autera's subscription fee. This includes (but is not limited to) requesting a Customer's direct phone number, email, or payment details outside the Platform with the intention of completing future bookings off-Platform.

6.3 Autera reserves the right to review, suspend, or remove a Mechanic's account where there is reasonable evidence of misconduct, fraud, repeated customer complaints, attempts to circumvent the Platform as described in 6.2, or breach of these Terms.

7.Customer obligations

7.1 Customers must provide accurate information about their vehicle and the issue they are experiencing, to the best of their knowledge.

7.2 Customers must provide reasonable access to the vehicle at the agreed time and location for the Mechanic to carry out the work.

7.3 Payment must be made via the Platform using the methods provided. Customers should not attempt to arrange payment outside the Platform for a booking made through Autera.

7.4 Customers agree to make and pay for bookings through the Platform for any Mechanic they were introduced to via Autera, rather than arranging direct off-platform payment, for the lifetime of their use of the Platform. This helps Autera continue to provide the booking, payment protection, and support services that benefit both Customers and Mechanics.

8.Cancellations

8.1 Customers may cancel a booking free of charge up to a reasonable period before the scheduled appointment (see the specific cancellation window shown at the time of booking).

8.2 Where a Mechanic has set a call-out fee on their profile, this fee may apply if a booking is cancelled after the Mechanic has already travelled to the location, or where the Customer is not present/available at the agreed time. Call-out fees are set by individual Mechanics and shown clearly before a Customer confirms a booking.

9.Account suspension

Autera reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to the Platform, without liability, in cases of:

  • suspected fraud or misuse;
  • breach of these Terms;
  • legal or regulatory requirement;
  • technical necessity.

10.Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. Material changes will be communicated to users via the Platform or by email. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11.Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from these Terms or use of the Platform are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
